Blood Thinning Considerations
Blood thinning is possible with those who take omega 3 fatty acids, and this can cause bleeding. In fact, when taken in high doses, if can cause nosebleeds and blood into urine. Ruptured blood vessels and disorders can happen as well. If you are already taking blood thinning supplements such as heparin, you need to be careful.
Implanted Heart Defibrillators
Those who have implanted cardiac defibrillators might cause arrhythmia. The research on this is still new and it conflicts, so it might not always be the case.
Blood Pressure Considerations
Those who have low blood pressure, or who are taking medication for their blood pressure need to be careful with fish oil.
Blood Sugar Considerations
If you have type 2 diabetes or low blood sugar, you need to talk to your doctor before taking fish supplements and monitor their blood sugar.
Bipolar Disorder
While fish oil can benefit those with depression, it might cause a higher risk of mania in those with bipolar disorders. This is rare though.
Immune System Contraindications
People with weak immune systems, as brought on by cancer, HIV, or certain medications, should not use fish oil supplements.
Pregnancy Considerations
Those women who are pregnant of breastfeeding should only take fish oil supplements that are from a reputable manufacturer that can assure that they don't have toxins and heavy metals.
Allergies
Those who have allergies to fish and shellfish might be allergic to fish oil supplements, and should probably avoid them. If you have a reaction, you should contact emergency medical services.
